BoxTango aims to offer sustainable, efficient and affordable transport options in order to shift freight transport from road to rail. We believe that the full potential of rail transport is yet to be tapped. In view of global warming, it is urgent to speed up this transformation. Against this background, BoxTango operates train connections, maintains a transfer site in Ostrach and offers dispositions in intermodal transport. BoxTrucking, our affiliate company, ensures safe and just-in-time transport on the last mile.
Besides operating train routes and maintaining a transfer site, BoxTango makes intense efforts to develop new transfer and shunting technologies which ought to contribute to a smoother and more efficient process within inter-modal transport. Handling containers as easily as commuters change platforms at train stations – that is BoxTango’s mission. Only if transfer from rail to road and vice versa becomes time-efficient and more convenient to the customer, the full potential of rail freight transport can be exploited.
BoxTango GmbH was founded in 2011 by the current managing director Martin Burkhardt. At first, we focused on the development of a new handling technology in the area of intermodal transport but soon we recognized the huge unsatisfied demand for more rail freight services. Due to the extensive experience of our managing director in this area, BoxTango decided to expand its business field by entering this market.
For this purpose, we opened a second branch in Ostrach, southern Germany. As a decommissioned transshipment point, the transfer site was ideally suited for our entry into this business field. In order to make the transsipment point ready for operation, we paved the ground, built office-containers and acquired a reach-stacker. Thanks to this reopening in Ostrach, we are now able to serve a region that was previously poorly served by intermodal transportation. This also results in, reduced CO2-emissions and a more environmentally friendly transportation chain.
In addition to maintaining transports through Ostrach, we have been offering timber transports in northern Germany since 2018 and container transports from Hamburg to the Lake of Constance region since 2019. In order to offer our customers an all-round package, we broadened our product range by founding BoxTrucking GmbH in summer of 2019. We are now able to offer a one-stop shop solution, that is especially well-suited for connections between German seaports and the Lake of Constance region.
At the moment, we are working on new intermodal connections in Belgium, Austria and Germany. We plan to further expand our activities in the field of timber transport. In the future we aim to focus on the development of a new handling technology as well as on the opening of new transshipment points.
