Intermodal Transport
Intermodal transport (IT) describes the transportation of freight using multiple modes of transportation.
Intermodal transport therefore combines the transportation of goods on rails, street and water. The goods are transshipped once or several times without the transported goods leaving their transport containers during transshipment. To make this possible, the technical features of the transport receptacles must be standardized (containers, swap bodies or semi-trailers). This method reduces cargo handling, improves security, reduces damage, and allows freight to be transported faster.
BoxTango relies on IT in order to fully utilize the strengths of each mode of transport. This also means, that by utilizing synergies, BoxTango can offer you a cost efficient form of transportation.
For example, railway transport is only financially attractive if the distance covered is relatively long and the freight capacity utilization is high. On the other hand, trucks, which are flexible in terms of both space and time, can be used for local distribution for pre- or post-carriage.
Thus, a combination of those modes of transportation ist ideal. IT can also help reduce road congestion by shifting to rail transport, which is a more environmentally friendly type of transport.
Another advantage is the regulatory extension of the maximum weight for trucks from 40 to 44 tons when intermodal transport is used.
All of this is offered by us. We are looking forward to working with you!

Transfer Sites
In Ostrach, on our very own transfer site we can easily transfer your goods from train to truck or the other way around. We own a powerful reachstacker, which can quickly lift and transport containers and swap bodies as well as trailers. In additon, we offer full- or empty container storage on site.
We are constantly expanding our range of services by building new transfer sites and thereby connecting new regions to rail transport.

Eurodual
The Eurodual was developed by Stadler Rail AG and was approved for the German rail network at the beginning of 2020. With a length of 23 meters and enormous tractive power it is one of the largest and most powerful locomotives registered in Germany.
The fact that it is a dual mode lomotive and therefore is able to easily switch between its electric and diesel engine leads to huge efficiency advantages, especially within the German rail network The Eurodual is particularly well suited for transporting heavy loads over long distances. Thanks to its radio remote control system however, it can also be easily used for last-mile services or on sidings.
The first BoxTango Eurodual was put into operation in April 2020, a second one followed in June.
Our rented Euroduals are being used to transport heavy timber trains in Northern Germany as well as in intermodal transport.
The 3000-ton, 670-meter-long train is headed for the Rettenmeier-Wilburgstetten sawmill. The Eurodual hybrid locomotive 2159 207-0 draws power from the overhead line on electrified rail lines and on non-electrified lines the traction motors receive power from a generator driven by a diesel engine.

Transfer Technology
Our transfer technology makes your transport easier and faster.
Every conventional container can be transferred without expensive, inflexible gantry cranes or reach stackers.
Our transfer technology is mounted on a conventional truck, which means that several transfer sites can be served on one tour. This lowers the profitability threshold per transfer site, every loading track or side can become a small container terminal.
